Authentic HK Style Milk Tea - Ovo Cafe - 2nd & Mission

When I interned in Hong Kong during my junior year of college, my company put me up in a great apartment in North Point across an MTR station. On my first day, I started the morning off with a cup of Hong Kong Style Milk Tea (HKMT) from the tiny cafe next to the station and it became a ritual for the rest of my internship. The only time I ever skipped my morning milk tea was during a level 8 typhoon.

Since coming back to the U.S., I've been searching for authentic Hong Kong Style Milk Tea. I started my search in FiDi and came up empty for years. The quality of milk tea in FiDi was more disappointing that the 72nd day of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' marriage.

After years of searching, I finally found authentic HKMT in FiDi at Ovo CafeHKMT to Hong Kong people is like Flat White to Australians or Frappuccinos to Basics - there's only one way to make it, and it's the right way. And Ovo Cafe definitely makes it the right way.

If you ever need a pick-me-up in the afternoon, do yourself a favor and get a cup of Hong Kong Milk Tea at Ovo Cafe...and maybe even try the flaky egg tart that they make in-house.

Tea was strong and rich with just the right "secret tea blend" taste. For those who are not familiar with HKMT, the tea is brewed differently from normal drinking. Instead steeping tea leaves, HKMT is made from grounded tea leaves and filtered through a fine mesh net ("silk stocking") The filtering process takes over 15 minutes as the "tea-rista" filters the tea over and over again. The result of this unique brewing method is an intense flavor and no ground residue. It also extracts so much caffeine that you can run home from FiDi if you live in the Sunset

Perfect amount of evaporated milk to smooth out the acidity in the tea without diluting the flavor. I know there is dairy in evaporated milk, but for some reason, I do not have a problem with this.

Not applicable - I don't even think this is an option.
