Ratchet Recipes: Kumquat Tea

So after two consecutive dinners of hot pot, I think it's time to do a little bit of detox so I can drop the kids off at the pool.

If you like to cook raw meat in boiling spicy broth, but dread the "Hotpot Hangover," keep reading for my Kumquat Tea recipe.

Kumquat tea is as easy as hot pot...just add hot water. This little fruit has polyphenols in them like green tea, as well as Omega 3 fatty acids and lots of fiber. If you've ever felt like an overstuffed Chipotle burrito, then head over to the supermarket or someone's backyard to get some kumquats for a detox right now.

If you've had a big meal the night before, it's best to drink this first thing in the morning. However, if you're planning to go somewhere with long restroom lines, DO NOT DRINK THIS.

Kumquat Tea

Ingredients
3-5 kumquats
1 teaspoon of honey (optional)
1.5 cups of hot water

Stuff I assume you already have
Hands
Knife
Cup or Mug

Directions
1) Before you slice your kumquats, rub the kumquats between your hands. Kumquats can be very bitter and sour - this will squish some of the sugar content inside the fruit, while pushing out some of the bitterness from the skin.

When you see some oils seep out of the pores, you're good to go. But if your kumquat is smashed, you've gone too far.

2) Slice the kumquats and remove the seeds if you like.

3) Put your sliced kumquats into a glass and just add hot water. If it's a bit tart for you, go ahead and add a bit of honey.

Enjoy and relax a bit while the kumquats do their work. Just make sure you have iFunny or some reading materials when you take the kids to the pool.
